It can't be not understanding. Ebay is too clear
about it. A lot of times, I'm sure people get
"caught up in the moment". . . They really want
the item (whatever it may be) and so they keep
thinking, "well I was willing to pay $X - I can
do $2.50 more." And then it turns into $2.50
more than that, and then $2.50 more than that. . .
until the person turns into the auction equivilent
of the people I saw last time I went to Atlantic
City - the dull-faced, zombies who just sat, fed
the machine, and pulled the handle over and over
and over again. 0_o (It was truly scary. 0_o)
I know that I often *don't* put in my max bid
right away because of these people who come in
with the intent to bid last second and then keep
just walking the bid up. Even if the auction ends
before they hit my max, they can cost me a lot of
money. (As happened with the Narumon cel I
recently won on Ebay.)
In terms of cels - I get the feeling that some of
these people are the same people we see here who
have to sell some cels right away because of
"oops! I've overspent for the month". Basically,
it suddenly dawns on them that they can't
actually afford their bid. But of course, when
they go to sell the cel - usually not on Ebay
right away if they got it there - it goes up for
sale at their inflated bid. When someone tries to
comment that the cel was *just* bought or isn't
the price a bit steep, that's when all the
whining starts about "I'm *only* asking what I
paid for it".
(Note, I'm not pointing *ANY* fingers whatsoever
or trying to indicate any particular person in
any way, but just making what I believe is an
accurate specualtion of a situation.)
I guess, aside from people who buy cels just to
throw them up on Ebay or to resell on their site
(I was ***VERY*** angry to recently see a dealer
I like very much outbid me on some cels on Yahoo
Japan only to throw them up on thier site a tiny
bit later), I'm also annoyed by the eternal
"overspenders". . . Maybe more so because I *DO*
watch what I spend and I'm careful not to
overspend myself. (Or if I do, I do it knowing I
have to "underspend" next month.) It's annoying
to be outbid on something only to have the high
bidder turn around and say "oops! I have to sell
this right away because I overspent! woe-is-me!"
In that case, NO. Woe-is-*ME*, since I could have
bought the cel before but now they "only" want
what they paid for it.
I guess I better hope these two cents are flame-
resistant. ^_~
