I've been keeping up with this argument/moral
debate, but now I feel I must add my two cents
(ie: *warning* Jenny's opinion is stated below):
I will admit that you have made a good point, but
it is flawed. Morals are a tricky thing.
Think about it this way: The United States
government allows many different
religion/cult/belief systems to practice here,
unless they violate some safety or moral code of
the community. Some religions involve the use of
psychodelic drugs, yet those practices have been
outlawed by the US government for
being "immoral".
Now, kiddies, here comes the million dollar
question: Immoral to whom? The participants of
the religion? The community in which they live
that shares common beliefs? Or the beauraucrats
in Washington D.C.? <-- Gee, guess.
Also... society is based on collective moral
ideas? Well, yes, it is based on the idea. And
in general a society bands together based upon
their common ideas. But what would happen to the
human race if certain people within that society
didn't share different opinions in some areas?
What if 10,000 thought that drugs were bad, but
80% of them thought that smoking was OK?
People think differently. That's what this all
boils down to. Yet all of these different people
can live together peacefully through tolerance.
At least that's a nice idea. Too many are set in
the mind frame that because they think it's bad,
then it can't be good - for anyone. And yes,
please, there are obvious exceptions to this!
Rape, murder, torture... there are few who can
condone such acts of violence. But S&M? It's
usually between consenting adults who enjoy it.
See the difference?
I will admit that we have not been tolerant with
Evil Jewess. How can we be if there are so many
reactions to her post? Yet this has happened
before with her. Jewess, you _know_ that you
share different views than some of us. You think
that alcohol in _any_ form is evil. Many here do
not share your belief. As I said before in the
long lost thread, hold onto your beliefs, embrace
them, but do not force them upon others.
There are some opinions that must be held back
for the common good. I think that almost all
those reading can agree that these threads always
start with one person who didn't read over their
post a few times, think it over, and find an
intelligent way to get their point across without
lighting a match under it.
*phew* I just woke up and this is what happens
^^; I applaud anyone who's made it to the end of
this babble-fest...
Best Wishes,
Jenny
