To be honest, I can't believe I sparked such a long thread.
I am only half-way down, but I wanted to respond to Xane's
comments. My, getting a little hot under the collar, aren't
we dear?
I love on this forum how when someone sayd something that
may be a little controversial, they are usually responded
to by people who end up being 20 times more rude and
obnoxious than the original author.
I can't remember all of what you wrote Xane because I was
laughing so hard when I was reading it, but here's a few
things to respond to your post:
1. need 2 b said - I am not a fan of that either and would
not have originally written like that, but I did want to
say that somewhere in the title and I was worried it would
not all fit on one line. That's why I wrote it in the
author space and used those shorteners. It was a space
issue - that's all. Now who's attacking someone for their
choice of language? The hypocrites abound on this forum...
2. I would bet that most of the poeple who thought your
ridiculous messge was a great one, are probably the people
that felt personally attacked because their galleries are
covered with the word kawaii. I don't know that for sure,
and I haven't checked, and I am sure that there are SOME
people who agreed anyway, so this is not a call for all
those who agreed to come forward and point themselves out
and say that they don't fall under my stereotyping.
3. I don't post my email for a very good reason. My email
is for my business and my friends. I don't want to read
the ridiculous ranting and raving of someone like you. I
like replies to be on the forum so I can check them at my
leisure and not have to go shuffle through them while
reading stuff that's far more important. I suppose I
could do like many and create another email acount at
hotmail or something and then make up some anime-related
handle for people to refer to me by, but why bother? Just
to satisfy your desire to put a name with my post?
You said that without a name my commments don't count for
anything or something like that, but hey, they sure got you
all riled up, now didn't they?
4. If you actually took the time to read my post, you would
see that I was NOT referring to the over-used but useful
expressions like gomen nasai, sumimasen and arigatou, and the other formality words that can be useful. So, choosing
the word thank-you on a Japanese site is of the same type.
Also, when the person on the Japanese site writes that, they
are probably doing it for the sake of the million or so
English speakers who pop by their site (maybe bugging them
to seel overseas - another issue). However, even though I
hate to generalize, I would have to seriously doubt that
Westerners use their token Japanese words, it is not for the
sake of Japanese who might not speak English.
5. You attacked me for using the same 6 words? Excuse me,
but I believe I was pointing out the over-used words. How
can I NOT use the same words I hear ALL the time if I am
trying to make a point about over-used words, and really
only *kawaii* anyway.
6. I am not writing this to help my ego maintain my
believed intellectual superiority. If I was, I would have
posted a couple of sentences at the bottom of my post in
Japanese just to show-off and alienate the vast number of
anime lovers who don't know Japanese. And I DO believe
that there is nothing worng with not knowing Japanese. I
don't care how much Japanese people know.
So I guess people do not want to put this word to rest.
Anyway, maybe at least now people will think a little
before throwing it into their post 100 times. |
