Well, this post isn't really about cels, but it does relate
to this forum. I haven't visited in a while, and during the
time it took me to read through all the new threads, there
was something that consistently caught my eye to the point
where it became unbelieveably annoying.
I know that people feel oh-so-cool displaying their token
6 words of Japanese, but PLEASE, is there any way we could
lay the word "kawaii" to rest. If you want to say something
is cute, fine, just say it. It is the the most over-used
word in history, and I would love to see it's reign in the
cel world come to an end. So PLEASE, let's officially put
the word to rest on this forum and d our best not to use it
anymore...
As a fairly fluent Japanese speaker, I have no qualms if
someone want to post a message here in Romanji Japanese.
But to see every mile-long post in English contain no Japanese except for the word kawaii, this is really annoying
after a while. This cel is kawaii, that cel is kawaii, that
other one is totemo kawaii, etc...
And this isn't just on the forum. I have seen this in many
cel galleries (where someone labels half their cels as
"kawaii" and has no other Japanese on the page), ebay
auctions, and every other type of page relating to cels.
Oh, and putting "totemo" in front of "kawaii" really
doesn't improve the situation any.
So although, gomen (nasai), sumimasen, jaa mata ne, and a
couple of other catch phrases have caught on too much too,
at least those are common and useful (if overused here)
expressions.
Oh, and this is to all those people who post their names on
the forum with a -san or -chan ending (hachi-san comes to
mind not to pick on anyone specifically though). You all
do realize that in Japan, people do not address themselves
with any ending be it -sama, -san, -chan, -dono, etc., and
those are only added when other people say their names? So
to attach one of these to your own name is well, really
weird. I don't know if people already knew this and were
doing it as a joke, but I have seen this trend increasing
and I just wanted to let people know that it doesn't make
you sound more Japanese, just very silly.
I might call you Hachi-san, but when you stated your own
name, you would just say Hachi.
I know this wasn't about cels, but it was about this forum,
so maybe it counts...
Hope nobody was too offended... |
