IS there way to know if a cel is fake or not ? If the person that made it is good, no, not realy. Experts could probably make the differance by analyzing the type of paint used (but most studios use the same brand and it's available on the market) and so one but that's probably not a possibility for most people.. :) Some people says that if the sequence number is missing, that's a fake. I don't think so : that would mean that after all the time and skill the person need to create a fake, he simply "forgot" to put a dummy sequence number ??? Rather silly from him... :) Sequence numbers may get erased quite easly (especialy when cleaning the cel) or is sometime on a separate piece of plastic that was taped to the main one. (to get more painting area). One thing is sure : if you know of several people having the exact same cel, probably all of them are fake or promotional cels. Two cels in the same sequence may be very similar but they won't be the same : studio won't waste time making several identical cels. If you look at a cel, you will notice that between two colors, there is often a small line of a in-between hue. This line isn't easy to do. That can help to know if the cel is fake or not. But naturaly, that just mean that the person need to have enough skill to make that line and create a good fake... A good way to know that a cel is not a fake is to know where it comes from : If you got it directly from the studio, it probably won't be a fake... :) Cheers, Yann Stettler |
