I really think CCS is the show that woke people
up to how truly bad a dub could be. I remember
when it was licenced and (as per usual) the good
fansubbers pulled it's fansubs. Then people saw
what was being done with it and all hell broke
loose. People complained to the company (who
ticked off MANY people by brushing them off) and
fansubbers (even the good ones!) made the fansubs
available again, as they said: Until a *real*
domestic release was going to be produced.
Suddenly you could say you hated dubs and other
anime fans didn't just shrug blankly at you.
When I saw the incredible backlash to the show's
excessively lousy (then still only impending)
dub, I was amazed!! . . .And incredibly thrilled
because at least *I* mark it as the beginning of
companies realizing that people not only care
about the translations, but that they're ALSO
very willing to watch subtitled video. I fully
believe the CCS vs. Cardcaptors fiasco changed
the whole map of how both dubs and subs are
produced for release here.
And incidentally, the local video shops in my
area stopped carrying the "Cardcaptors" version
of the show after about two or three volumes.
When I asked about it out of curiosity, I was
told it simply was not selling. HOORAY! *^_^*
