Given that he arrived at the interview knowing
practically zip about animation, much less
Japanese animation, I thought it was refreshing
that he talked with me for so long and took
gallons of notes. He got a good 85% of things
right, which is in itself surprising. (I'm used
to being interviewed on Satanism, and in such
cases even 50% accuracy of info, quotes, etc. is
cause for rejoicing.)
Ignorance is curable; all you need is interest in
learning more, and it's a healthy sign that the
reporter was obviously interested and felt that
most of the paper's readership of the local paper
(most of whom would likewise know zip) would
likewise be interested. The length of the article
was flattering, and in fact there was a preview of
it in the Saturday paper as well (which I missed).
In fact, the reporter really seemed concerned
about poor Li Syaoran. He told me in a followup
phone interview that he had hacked around the 'net
to try to find an episode summary that told what
happened at the end of Ep. 69, and none of them
would give it away.
