[That still doesn't mean it's "my fault"
just because someone else has decided to charge
too much (again, it's like blaming a rape victim
for wearing a skirt that was too short; flawed
logic).]
The flawed logic is yours. Rape, an act in which
the victim has no consent, is not comparable to
your implicit consent to pay for the services
rendered as a result of your bid. If you did not
have the time to ask the appropriate questions,
then it is your problem. Of course you can talk
the guy down, but it is still your responsibility
to pay him. Secondly, I did mention that it is
against ebay's seller's policy to grossly
overcharge shipping. If this guy is grossly
overcharging for shipping, then you can make your
greivance to ebay's safe harbor.
[Yes, it is my RESPONISBILITY to check,
but THAT is a different issue (confusing the ends
with the means, my friends). If a seller is
charging to much, I will pay, but not before
trying to bring it down first; simply "accepting"
it is saying it's OK for people to rip you off,
and it's not. If I can, I will fight it first.]
I never said you should accept excessive
overcharges in shipping. What I said was it is
your responsibility to check the total shipping
costs before bidding and not to assume that the
shipping cost will be whatever you think it
should be. If you do not do so, you are still
responsible for your bid. You do not determine
the shipping charge--the seller does. |
