Re: Opinion/Poll - Arguing eBay sellers down from shipping prices (Wed Aug 28 20:57:12 2002 )

Sorry, but it is the bidder's responsibility to
ask any questions pertaining to the auction
before bidding. Once you make the bid, you are
agreeing to any terms the seller might have. If
the seller does not explicitly state the shipping
cost in the auction description, it is all the
more reason to ask them what the approximate
shipping cost is. If the cost they give you is
rediculous, then you don't have to bid. If they
won't give you a shipping cost, then you probably
shouldn't bid. Now, I'm not defending this guy
who is probably making back his ebay fees in
shipping, but it is the bidder's responsibility
to ask him first.

Of course, if you think that he will back the
shipping cost down if you ask, then go for it.
You can even mention that excessive shipping fees
are against ebay's seller policy too. Maybe if
you mention that he will give you reasonable
shipping cost.

Totally off topic mini rant:

This is something that I really get miffed about
as a seller. I am willing to ship
internationally as long as the buyer pays for EMS
shipping (which is clearly noted BTW). So per
usual, I get a myriad of international bidders
who bid first and ask later. Many times when
they find out their $10 item is going to cost $15-
20 to send, they often decide that they aren't
going to pay or are only going to pay what they
decide is the "right" amount. This really pisses
me off to no end and really makes me want to stop
shipping internationally.
