"(But tell me what makes game cels less than
production cels? Game cels were used to film the
sequences in the game and thus they ARE production
cels.)"
The rest of your post echoed my sentiments almost
exactly, Drac. Except for the above comment.
So, are you saying that as long as a cel was put
under the camera, it was a production cel? What
about a hanken that was photographed for a
magazine cover? Is that a production cel? I got
into a big discussion about this back when the
Tenchi game cels first started appearing on
Animaxis.
I collect cels primarily because they are as close
as you can get to owning the "real life" of the
character. In other words, if Tenchi only exists
in cartoons and movies, then owning a cel from one
of those productions is like owning a slice of his
life. It's the ultimate collectible.
The distinction I make between production cels and
game cels is that the games do not develop or
progress the lives of the characters. They are as
relevant, IMHO, as a commercial spot or a magazine
ad. Does that make sense?
One caveat: I am not speaking from personal
experience in terms of playing these games. But
I've never heard anyone talk about the game
sequences in terms of how they relate to the
series or movies.
