I don't know if anyone else finds themselves in
this same boat, but there is one more reason for
my general disinterest in the post-production
cels. The frames picked to reproduce aren't cels
I would be most looking to buy if the show *had*
been made with cels. Most are head-and-shoulders
closeups. Forget seeing the costume. . . or any
character interaction for that matter, because I
think I've seen only one post-production cel with
more than one character in the frame.
After looking at my collection, it doesn't take a
rocket scientist to realize that when deciding to
buy something, I value: scene, interaction
between characters, and seeing the character
design. Often, this means I'm more interested in
what most people consider "cheaper" cels.
A while back, someone else here (I wish I could
remember who) mentioned that they sometimes felt
their most "valuable" galleries -- the ones with
all pricey, A grade closeups -- were also the
most "sterile". It's a good description for
another feeling I get from the post-production
cels. . .
But like I said, I'm not carving my opinions in
stone yet. ^_^ Especially since none of these
cels have been made for a show I care about, and
I still have yet to see a post-production cel up
close. Since they were made *as merchandise* (as
opposed to being made for 1/20 of a second and
then the garbage can), I'm sure the quality of
these cels -- the lines and painting -- is very
high. I've also been told they have all the
different layers (as they would if they had been
actually used in animation) and this is something
that does intrigue me.
