...as I'm pretty much indifferent to the whole
concept of an online gallery.
Anyhow, I think what gets people riled up about
image theft is the hypocritical nature of those
who do the thieving....
Like the guy who steals your "crappy cel scans,"
makes a wallpaper out of it, and then screams
bloody murder if someone else dares to take
his "artwork" and use it for something else.
Or the person who gathers up every cel scan they
can find for a particular series, removes all
watermarks, and doesn't acknowledge any sources.
Oh, but they have a FAQ and copyright notice
warning people not to take images from *their*
site.
Or the fancel artist who claims to be working
from screencaps, yet by magical coincidence has
managed to match the off-screen portions of your
cel as well.
Or the leecher who thinks the word "cel" means
some kind of weird JPG anime image, and builds
their own online "cel" collection by pointing
their image tags to your site.
Or the bootlegger who uses your scan to sell
illegal mousepads, T-shirts, and incomprehensibly
crappy all-region DVDs with Chinese and English
subtitles on eBay... all the while hiding behind
eBay's greedy policy of tolerance for pirates who
happen to bring in a lot of sales.
..etc etc etc...
If you don't have a problem with any of that,
then you need not be concerned, I suppose. |
