Well, to be honest if i had to do it over again i
would not have tried to pinch pennies and would
have made a serious investment into my scanner.
Thats not saying what i have is underpowered.
If you go with the major manufacturers, you wont
go wrong, top four in my mind are umax, hp,
microtek and epson, in no particular order.
One important thing to consider is interface, get
as fast as you can, thats USB2 (not USB1.1). Or
firewire, maybe scsi but that can be tricky
setting up if you dont know how.
I have a USB2 and it zips right through a scan
like crap through a goose.
But the thing that would make me shell out
serious money is the flatbed size. Most scanners
come with a 8.5x11 or 8.5x14 bed size approx. I
would consider with 20/20 hindsight getting a
corporate type scanner, those have bed sizes of
a whopping 12x17 plus with resolution up to
1600x3200 dpi, and thats not interpolated.
Imagine scanning the larger cels without having
to stitch them together, droooool. Unfortunately
they are VERY pricey, about a 1000, but if looked
at as a four/five year investment it doesnt look
so bad, kinda. (whincing at my wallet) I havent
seen any with USB2 yet but alot have firewire for
the speed.
Thats my thinking aloud for what its worth, hope
you find what you need. Best wishes to ya.
Happy Lainning ^_^x
