My thoughts, part 1 (Sun Jul 30 14:33:01 2000 )

I hope this comes off as a semi-coherent, honest
opinion and my general feelings on the matter....

First of all, I rarely make issues over the cost
of something I collect or want. They're
expensive for one reason or another, and all it
takes is a simple, courteous question to find out
why. I will, however, often bemoan the fact that
I have gotten into a number of generally
expensive hobbies: Anime, simply because of the
sheer volume of what is available. Home-Theater,
because the good equipment is expensive, and the
sound formats are constantly evolving--forcing
periodic new hardware purchases. Computers,
because every 18 months, there is another
increase in capabilities--would anyone consider
putting over $6000 into a *single* home-built
computer? Probably not.
I do all this because I want to. In some way
shape or form, all of the above
activities/interests have advanced my career, or
gotten me out of the house, meeting new people,
and generally acting like a mostly-normal, happy
human being as opposed to a territorial "cave-
dwelling" computer geek...

Anyways...
To answer your question: Yes, I've often wanted
to come across inexpensive quality cels in
quantity, wether I liked what was on them or not.
I would *not*, however, try to sell them for
profit. I am not a dealer, just a fellow
collector that believes in sharing my good
fortune. I know this has more to do with how I
was raised more than anything else.
[mental note made to thank parents somehow]
Being that sort of person, I would either
announce publicly what I found, or, if possible,
buy them to turn around and sell them to those
interested for *exactly* what it cost me.
With regards to my current collection, all my
cels have pricetags on them. It's what I paid
for them--what it was worth *to me* to make them
part of my collection. In the near-term, I do
not see myself ever selling a single cel that I
have. In the distant future, who knows? I may
lose interest in my chosen hobbies and sell
everything off. The only way I could ever think
of wanting to make money off a sale is if it were
forced by some other need...
