I'm very struck, Sasa, by the value-laden language that you use in this post. By value-laden I mean: >Is the idea to share our treasures with everyone else who >wasn't so lucky to be able to find or afford the cel we >treasure or is it a way for us to just lord over other people all of our prize possessions? No matter how one answers in the context you set up for us, it sounds like a cel gallery is meant merely for vanity. Frankly, it sounds like you are baiting your readers. I propose (and please tell me, anyone, if this is too Pollyanna from the truth), that the subject of cel scans is a touchy subject because it seems in the cel collecting community, this community defines the rules of what is appropriate and what is not. There is, of course, very little this "artificial" community can do to enforce these rules except by ostrasizing those members who do not conform. Your questions are good in that they test these rules. For myself, who is in the process of putting up a cel gallery, I desire to join this community for several reasons: --protection through information (against fraud) --commerce (to sell/trade cels) or in the hopes that someone will find the one I'm looking for --discussion (as my friends aren't that interested in what I collect here) When someone takes an image from a gallery without asking, they break the etiquette of this community. As for stopping them, it's almost impossible. But perhaps, they won't get the benefits of this community. Hey, you asked for philosophy and you got it! :) Philosophically yours, Wendy |
