First of all, I'd like to thank Yann for putting this forum up in the first place. Thanks Yann!! Consider this little lesson in economics: We live in a market economy. While not perfect, markets, if large enough, find the "right" price, based on supply and demand. It seems to me that there has been a surge in the number of collectors. This is an increase in demand Assuming a fixed supply, since there were only so-many cels a studio used in production and released, this will result in a price increase. Is this "good" or "bad" ? Depends on whether you are selling or buying ! All we can do is "vote with our feet" If a starting price on eBay is too high, don't bid on the thing ! It isn't worth that much, or not to you, at least. But someone else may very well think that it IS worth that much! The market has spoken in either case: If nobody bids, the price was too high. If it gets bid through the roof, it must be worth that much (at least to the people bidding.) Perhaps the upward move in cel prices is a trend, or maybe it is just a fad. While currently "you can get cels real cheap in Japan", recall the prices that Levis and used (used, fer crying out loud !) Nikes recently fetched (and may still be fetching, for all I know) in the Land of the Rising Sun that make cel markup look mighty pissant. And Beanie Babies ! Several thousand dollars for a piece of felt full of seeds ? ! ? To each their own, I suppose. To be continued in part 2...(I kept getting message size errors.) |
