Sucks you experienced that, but not all Americans 
act like that, as you can see because you don't. 
Generalizing like that is not right either. Every 
society has it's clods. I can assure you that if 
*I* were in Japan at a business, I would be 
extremely polite, as I would in any person's 
business. I personally despise "heavy handed" 
people that ham-handle other's property.
