it has a marvellous filter for adjusting 
contrast.  it's under effects -> enhance photo.  
that, combined with a lightness/contrast tweak, 
solves pretty much any problem, even the horror 
of movie Saionji (whose uniform *always* scans as 
one dark blob).  

don't know about photoshop, but i'd imagine it 
has to have a similar filter.
