Yes, Asylum Anime sells anime DVD for the same
cheap prices. Unfortunately, theirs are most
definitely gray-market CDs as well, mostly on the
notorious SM label from Taiwan.
Generally speaking, anytime you see an "imported"
anime CD selling in the $8-15 price range, it's
almost always an SM or EverAnime knock-off CD
from Taiwan. The only exceptions are the
officially licenced US releases, usually on the
Animetrax, Pioneer, and Rhino labels.
There are also a fair number of counterfeit CDs
with seemingly correct serial numbers floating
around. These are quite difficult to spot as
fakes until you open the case and examine the
disc itself. (Legit CDs usually have screened
artwork on the disc, whereas the fakes have
simple lettering and no art.) The bad thing about
these is that that dealers will often knowingly
sell them for same price as real Japanese CDs
(~$30). |
