Hi, I am new to this forum. (my english is bad
^^; sorry). But I am trained professional
animator, but now I do main character design for
studio. I was train in background paint, actual
animation (@____@...noone EVER do that it kills
brains). Also at work I make Promotional cel for
presentation for my company. I read a little bit
and have heard some opinion on Japanese anime fan
cel. I have sold just a few (but they were from
illustration, or original illustration I do). All
have sold well, sometime for more money than
production cel (not bragging, this lead up to a
point XD). I do not want to make anyone angry
about doing a fan cel. I would never copy
someone's cel from a personal gallery. I always
try to do ilustration and hand draw the cel
traditionally before I paint, and give the
original drawing to the customer. I always make
sure that people know it is fan cel, and not
original. I read that some people say this is
illegal, but I think maybe is different in Japan.
If it was illegal so would all doujinshi be
illegal, and doujinshi (whether normal, yaoi..etc)
is thriving business. So what do you think? I want
to make sure I continue to make people happy. I do
the best work I can on a cel. Most important thing
to me is that I am satisfied that it's profssional
quality, and never rush. I have a job as main
character designer and character concept during
the day, so I just do this as nice projects in my
spare time. Is it make a difference to people id a
fan cel is done by a professional? (In this, I
think cel collectors have good eyes to know level
of quality of a cel) Is it ok to do original
illustration and make this into a cel? (I have
seen most fan cel artist just copy). I want to
make sure I'm not upsetting anyone ^^;. I give
example of fan cel I do- though this is taken from
an illustration of Sesshoumaru from Inuyasha that
I turn into cel. Now I am drawing my own.
