It might be easier to start with, of those that 
you've seen, which ones did you like?  What type 
of anime do you like?  Romantic comedies? 
Action?  Sci-Fi?

From your list it looks like mostly action.  If 
you like mechs, Macross Plus is good.  You might 
consider renting the Patlabor movies - same 
director as GITS - mostly slow, but some good 
action.  

Ah, My Goddess is always good along w/ my 
favorite You're Under Arrest.  Cardcaptor Sakura 
is cutesy, if you go for that, but good.  Can't 
really go wrong with Studio Ghibli films.

Romantic comedies: Love Hina, Chobits, and 
Tenchi series are certainly popular, and many 
others I have yet to see (Onegai Teacher, Ai 
yori Aoshi, etc...)
