I guess I made a heavily loaded statement in the
title of my post without really thinking about it.
As far as the specifics in this case, I've dealt
with the person on a few transactions before, but
I wouldn't consider him a friend or acquaintance
of any sort. In a previous correspondance he said
that 'money was tight' so I merely assumed that he
was really pinching for this because of that, plus
the offer he made was about twice what he
initially offered me for it a while ago. Maybe he
came into some extra money, maybe not, but either
way it seems that you guys are mostly right about
how in this particular case his circumstances are
not as important as mine, since I would be the one
parting with it.
In the end I decided against selling mainly
because I have not seen anybody anywhere with one
of this particular character for sale or otherwise
(except for one from the same sequence that
wasn't nearly as good and that I already bought
and since sold). So in a way it is priceless
because it is irreplacable in both the way that
production items are, being unique, and that this
character isn't exactly floating around for me to
grab on a whim at a later date. Sure, he was
offering around 10 times what I paid (give or
take), but it's not like I can turn around and
buy ten more, or even one.
I guess I just have to overcome my stock-market
instincts of buying low and selling high.
Cheers all, and thanks for the discussion. It was
most interesting. |
