Good, thorough reply, Drac. I especially like
the part about the price you paid having NOTHING
to do with how you value a cel. I'm exactly the
same way.
The only way that price factors into a sale is
in a situation where I can REPLACE the item in
question. Sure it makes sense to sell something
for three times what you paid if you can go down
the street and buy the same item again for the
cheaper price. But if I cel that fantastic cel,
for whatever amount of money, there is no
telling that I'll be able to find a similar one
again.
As for the original question, I think that every
cel has a price. But I, too, rarely have people
offer anything tempting for my own cels. If I
bought it for X amount of dollars and really
wanted it, then it will probably take something
like 5x to pry it from my hands. Heh.
The one exception (which may come into play in
this situation) is if the person wanting the cel
is a good friend or contact. I have my own
circle of fiends...er..uh...I
mean "friends"...who I will gladly
give/sell/trade cels away to cheaply because I
know that the good karma will make its way back
to me in the future. In that respect, it turns
you from a cel-buying individual into a cel-
buying collective (with many pairs of eyes
looking for goodies you like!).
In this particular scenario you just have to ask
yourself if the money (and possible goodwill
generated with this person/friend/dealer/etc)
outweighs your love for the cel (and the
possibility of ever finding it again).
