On 01/11/02, I received, completed, and mailed
out the Mail Theft and Vandalism Report to the
United States Postal Inspectors Office in
Pasadena. I have then waited for another several
weeks without any answer whatsoever from that
office.
On 01/28/02, I was very unsatisfied with the lack
of progress or concern in my case. I returned to
the Consumer Affairs Office at *****-**** and
obtained the phone number for my local Postal
Inspectors office (***-***-****). I left a
message at that number, since no one answered my
phone call.
On 02/01/02, I spoke with Mildred from the local
Postal Inspectors office via telephone. I was
instructed to provide a complete narrative of the
events surrounding my missing package and fax it
to her office (***-***-****) at my earliest
convenience.
Throughout this entire period and up to the
present time,
* There has been absolutely no indication that
the package was ever returned to the shipper. I
have kept in close contact with the dealer
throughout this process and there has been no new
developments in Japan. I have also double-
checked and triple-checked that the dealer had my
correct address on file.
* Postal employees at ***** and ***** have been
unable or unwilling to provide any further
assistance.
* I have been forbidden to talk with any
supervisor at either postal facility to request a
more comprehensive search for the missing package.
I can hardly tolerate this situation any longer.
The package was last tracked to a postal facility
(*****) in the very city of my address. I cannot
believe that the package simply disappeared at
the post office. I also cannot believe that no
further attempts have been made to look for the
package. And I am disappointed that I cannot
talk with any facility supervisors nor do
anything further on my part, even though I am
probably within a half-hour drive from the lost
package. I am most unsatisfied that no further
or more thorough investigation has been conducted
so far or that no clues have turned up.
Even though I have been recommended by postal
employess to request that the shipper file for
EMS insurance, I still personally cannot afford
to lose this package. As I stated, the package
is worth twice the amount that I paid for it,
valued at well over $1000. The contents are one-
of-a-kind and are irreplaceable. To claim the
insurance money would still represent a
signficant loss for me.
Please conduct a thorough investigation and
search for this missing package. Particularly,
please interview the postal employees who last
handled the package (someone had to scan the
package at *****). Someone must be accountable
for losing this package, and I will not tolerate
the United States Post Office ignoring its
responsibilty in this matter. Even if the package
is ultimately declared to be lost, I demand to
know the names of the postal employees last
involved in its handling.
Although I would probably be forbidden to do so,
I also would request to be granted access to the
postal facilities at ***** and ***** (under
supervision, if necessary). If no one is willing
to look for the package any more, then I should
have the right to search for it myself.
In any case, I need some reassurance that the
utmost effort on the part of the United States
Post Office is still being placed in the recovery
of Express Mail package *************. If you
cannot help me, I will continue to present my
grievances to any higher authorities that I can
contact.
Thank you,
