That's right, it hasnt stopped me before...but, I
like to keep arguments to a minimum if I can.
Its easier on my mind. Most of these "flame
wars" are just differences of opinion on one,
maybe two topics. Not worth fighting over
something that insignificant. This topic just
really interested me so Im talking about it.
I collect the cels because I love the character,
or the animation's story/original artist. I
understand your POV, and it's very romantic. I
just dont feel as strongly about it as you do. I
also think cels' true value is that they will
eventually not be available. CG is taking over,
and there will be no more cels. But, that's okay
with me, it's cheaper and faster for the studios,
and therefore will produce more anime/cartoons.
The anime and the cartoons are the true artifacts
to me. The finished product. There will be some
college art professor making his students watch
Akira and saying, "Now, this was made by hand
painting plastic sheets." The cels are valuable
that way, I agree. I just dont collect them for
that kind of value. I look at mine, and I see
the character, the show, the original
artist....not "Oh man, these are precious
gemstones of history!" They are...but..I dont
care about that. I collect cels because I like
them...not to paintakingly preserve them. I
beleieve museums will do a finer job of that than
you or I. I think Ghibli (sp?) has their own
museum, right? So, dont worry, animation art
will be seen a thousand years from now. Whether
Im a part of that makes no difference to me...I
just like Watase's drawings ^_~ So, sit and call
me a fluke or "not a real collector" all you
want. I take my collecting very seriously (most
of the time ^_~) and I keep my cels very
protected....hopefully they'll be around for many
years. I hope they are...but if they arent (and
they probably wont), then people can still enjoy
the art by watching the films. :) That's all I
really have to say about it though, and when has
my POV ever made a ripple? I think it's noble
what you do, keep it up. Someone will appreciate
it in the long run. |
