These aren't Picassos. In all honesty, they
aren't even the focus of the "artists" who work
on it. Most of the people involved are concerned
with the final production, not the cels that they
paint. I have heard many a collector say that
they love the cels from a show, but hate the
show. I REALLY don't understand this. Everyone
involved on the anime was only concerned with one
thing.. the story they were trying to tell. To
sit there and collect cels and say that they
are "unique pieces of art" and should not be
marred by the "buggers" who merely created them
is absurd. How can people apreciate the work done
by these people, but not the people themselves?
If anyone were to offer a signed cel to me, I
would consider the signature a welcome addition
to it. Granted, I wasn't there for the signing,
but the fact that somebody involved in the anime
actually was able to sign it(something I'm sure
most people involved would love to be able to
do), would make me feel like I had something very
special. Actual fine art that isn't signed, is
usually worthless to collectors. The Elvis record
was a different market. The people who collect
records are interested in the record so they can
complete their collection, not because of any
desire to be art collectors. An earlier post
mentioned that these are "one-of-a-kind", and as
such bear little resemblance to mass-produced
records. |
