As you will see in my rant below, that's right.  
This was written thirty years ago, when I was a 
little kid.  Times were definitely different 
then. 

Keep in mind, as well, that this was a Canadian 
writer, speaking to a Canadian audience, and 
venting his own PERSONAL OPINION.  

Whoever posted this originally, on whatever list 
it started making this round on, (I've gotten now 
from about 50 different sources)  was trying to 
remind people in America that not everyone thinks 
we're the source of all evil.  I personally 
appreciated being reminded of that.  I can think 
of a lot worse places to be a part of, no matter 
what stupidities the US has accomplished over the 
last 250  years.
