You know, I read that statement (I never had
heard the original speech - although the comment
about the draft dodgers tipped me off that it
came from some*time* else) and my first thought
was: "Yeah, but other countries help each other
out too." My point being that the whole world -
today more than ever - is coming closer together
and trying (with varying degrees of success) to
work towards a goal of happiness for everyone.
More and more we are all helping each other and,
I think, learning that (in the ways it really
counts) we usually have a lot more in common than
we have in difference.
I have nothing against people being proud of the
countries in which they live. I have an American
flag hanging on my porch right outside my door
and I do not intend to take it down. But when the
way you display your nationalism is to put DOWN
other countries. . . That should be a big
indicator that something isn't right. . .
Well, I'm not very good with words at all. I'm
worse with politics. I relate better on a people
level. . . On the level of meeting someone else
and realizing "hey! this person is a great
person. they have something interesting to say
and contribute" Because at the base of it, a
country is not made by the handful of it's people
who serve as it's leaders. (I don't trust
politicians from ANY country, anyway - not even
my OWN! ~_~) A country is made by everyone *else*
in the country.
However, in hopes it makes you laugh, Yann. . . I
don't know what you think of when you think of
America, but when I think of Switzerland, I think
of absolutely nothing political at all. I think
of. . . C H O C O L A T E. **^_^** Blame my dad,
it's what was always brought back to me after his
business trips there. =^_^=;;
Many Sharp Smiles,
