Jim, I completely agree. I do think it's great
that young people enjoy this hobby, (like I'm an
old fart at 24 ~_^) but what I don't think is
great is the way a *few* of them approach
purchases. I have to say that the only time I've
had problems selling a cel is when it's from a
series that's more popular with a younger
audience. Specifically, DBZ or Gundam Wing. The
problems range from them not understanding when I
turn down an offer to simply fading away after
agreeing on a price. I've sold to first time
buyers (usually in their mid-teens) more often
than not, and for the most part they have been
very responsible. But some are not. Some are
either too new to understand how a transaction
should be handled, or they just have very little
consideration and become demanding and rude.
My point is that although it may not seem
necessary to tell potential buyers a price range,
when it comes to a popular series like DBZ a
seller is going to attract a lot more people...a
lot of people who don't frequent the forum, who
don't read through FAQ's or trading guidelines,
and probably don't watch much more anime than
that particular series.
I can only imagine what DBZ collectors like Misa
and Sheri must go through on a daily basis. (The
fact that Sheri shut down her site temporarily
and Misa has to worry about fraudulent auctions
does give me some idea). It's almost like you are
dealing with an entirely different group of
potential buyers.
Well, there doesn't seem to be an easy answer
with this one. But I agree with an earlier post,
this is an interesting discussion.
