Part of the problem is that I made it a "private" 
auction because I thought that way the BIDDERS 
couldn't see who each other were and that would 
cut down on the sniping that goes on.

Well, it turns out that a private auction is 
COMPLETELY private: the seller can't see who is 
bidding either until the end of the auction O_O

Another problem is that even at the end of the 
auction, I can only see who the highest bidder 
was, not any of the other bidders.

So I can't even tell if these people are legit or 
not, and therefore it's very easy for them 
to "secretly" bid it up.
