STAS may offer unlimited SPACE, but they do not
offer "unlimited BANDWIDTH" - of which the term
any serious webmaster should avoid (I pay for
400MB/day accumulated to a month), and the issue
in which Drac is interested in.
The "open-ended" terms and conditions are
something to watch out for, especially concerning
bandwidth. In the case of STAS:
>Stas.net offers free bandwidth and disk space
>within reason. Websites that are abusing system
>resources may be modified, removed or deleted if
>the strain on the system is too much. Generally
>we will contact the webmaster in these instances
>first to try and work out a solution.
>Additionally, Stas.net reserves the right to
>place banners onto NON-HTML files on the system,
>including images, file downloads, etc. Stas.net's
>Banner Free policy pertains only to HTML files.
Anyway, loose terms on "within reason" and "abuse"
give any provider free reign to suspend an account
when your traffic looks funny ... Unless you're
creating straddle accounts, free providers [for
files other than images] are not the way to go
(unless one is trying the online HDD).. |
