Breakdown of the JOKE!
There's a double pun on the word right! The
scar's on the right side of the face, when it's
normally on the left. So, saying it's should be
in the right side, it equally means the correct
and the right side.
As for the statement on the whole, it was a play
on the attitude that when you get to that level,
it should be perfect. (Um, eight hundred dollars
is a lot! I also think the cel though is
beautiful and perfect!)For example, people use
the littlest excuse to knock down the price of
comic books, from a small knick on the corner to
a bend along the side. Hey, if someone was
offering me a $100 cel of Misato from Evangelion,
I'd buy it, even if she had an eye in the middle
of her forehead.
It wasn't meant as a criticism as a cel. The
whole thing wasn't meant to hurt the reputation
of Usagi House, which I thought had an
impregnable reputation.
Of course having to explain a joke like this, it
doesn't sound funny.
Of course reading it like the way it was
presented, it's easy to get the wrong impression.
If I met you at a convention, and muttered this
with a smile and a laugh, would you have slammed
the cel book on me and started chasing me around
the dealer's tables cursing me and my decendents?
or would you have a short laugh along with me? I
hope it would be the second.
So, if the justice of heaven must rain down on
someone, please let it rain down on me as opposed
to anyone else who got involved in the
discussion. Actually, I think she's mostly angry
at me because it was written under my joke.
So to reiterate : I was trying to be funny.
Apologies to everyone. I'll practice comedy in
the safety of my home. |
