Those "charcoal" backer boards are used to neutralize the "acid" gas that seeps off from the acidity in the paper. I don't think it would have much effect on cels. As for the backing boards, I thought about using them but they're not really practical. Even the thin backing boards make a cel book much heavier and thicker. They're already fat enough with the cels in them. I suppose you could put the cel in a mylar bag and slip it in a mylar sleeve along with a backboard. You could store it upright (like an old comic book) and keep it in a box so it's out of the light. Unfortunately your cels would be harder to view, but they would never be bent. Seems like you'd only do this if you had a lot of very rare cels. Terence |
