Personally I think you will find that most dealers will cease to provide any information on a cel for fear of being accused of offering a false background. It seems that if you provide no detail information and say that you will provide more information or details about a cel if someone writes to you about it, you are ok and provided no false advertising. Sadly a new collector wouldn't know what to ask to begin with and would say that they saw a cel with a nice background for a good price and buy it. The dealer can not be accused of putting up false advertising and will defend themselves by saying if the buyer asked they would have told them. They just assumed that buyer knew what they were getting because they didn't ask. The fact is that there is no way that dealers can know 100% if the background is true or not on all of the cels they have up. Some of them are getting them from a supplier that they just have to trust. Some of the dealers are great sources of information, but they have real lives too and can not watch every show and know every scene and know if every cel they are selling is with the right background or not. If I have a cel with a background from a series that I've not seen every scene from and I bought it from a dealer I trusted who bought it from a shop they trusted and I turn around and sell it, will I be accused of trying to make money off of it because it has a background if a true fan of the show knows it is not orginial and I didn't? I think we are heading to witch hunts now and I find that very sad. This should be a hobby and not a witch hunt. We should support the better dealers and not accuse them. |
