The people who tend to gobble up cels and put them up on their site or on auction are usually collectors who want to profit off other collectors. Therefore, they know their stuff and will pick the things that go at insane prices. (The friendly collectors just trying not to go bankrupt will usually auction off their 'lesser' cels, and only their nice ones at insane prices when they're in need of a lot of money fast.) Once again, I am _only_ refering to the people who buy just to turn around and sell. If the cel has been sitting in your collection for a year or so and you want to auction it, I don't care (though it would be nice to offer in your page at a set price first...) Now, onto my explanation... For instance, a person can get to a site like Taro and buy up the hard to find Sailormoon cels, like popular characters who only appeared in movies, OP cels, rare and sought after villains or good guy transformations and alternate forms... Assuming these went for a reasonable price at the store (which is something like $75-$200 depending on the quality (I'm not an SM collector, so I'm just guestimating... obviously the hard to find SM cels that go for more than this many not be worth it to turn around and sell)) they can then auction or sell them for 2-3 times the price, someone will buy it. When you think about it, if they do this for just a handful of cels, that's easily hundreds of dollars. Keys |
