I don't think anyone is saying that you can't make a profit when you sell, but it's the feeling that you're being ripped off by someone when you see that they bought a cel to auction it off right away on eBay or elsewhere. This reminds me of something I saw on one of those news shows (20/20? Dateline? I forget). It was about a Springsteen concert and the devotion of one teenage fan who spent a few cold nights camping out to buy tickets. As it turned out, he couldn't buy any by the time he was at the booth because the scalpers bought many of them with the help of "unlisted" telephone numbers and other people who got paid to wait in line. Obviously, the scalpers wouldn't be terribly hurt if they couldn't sell every single one of their tickets, and it's not as if they'll attend every performance, but the devoted fan was very disappointed even though he was camped near the front of the line. Although the story is not a perfect analogy to what we are discussing, the theme is the same: how do you feel when others snatch up what you want in the name of greed? ---Trebuchet |
