I still keep my cels in celbooks which are in
piles on the floor of our "formal living room". We
use the "formal living room" for storage because
otherwise we'd have no use for the space (although
we keep talking about getting an arcade-sized air
hockey table and using the room for that).
I still collect, but on a much lower level than I
used to, for two reasons: first, there are very
few cels left that I'm interested in. I just don't
need another "good cel of character X" - I have
good cels of character X! - it needs to be
special. I know who has most of the cels that are
on my short list, and know they aren't selling
them anytime soon.
Second, I'm spending my time elsewhere. Cels never
were my only hobby, although they shoved the other
ones aside for awhile :-). But I just don't have
the time to haunt the boards for sales or be
around to snipe auctions or pounce on dealer
updates. (Although I recently did buy a couple of
cels from a dealer, and it was kind of fun.)
To answer one more question, I'm keeping my cels
because I like them. I bought them because I liked
them, and that hasn't changed. Looking at them
gives me pleasure, and that's their entire
function in my life. Yes, I've done a little
collection cleaning, because after a while you do
refine your tastes somewhat - but that's pretty
much the extent of it. |
