From the header, I thought this was going to be a
thread about how cel dealings used to occur
between people on a person-to-person basis
(usually face-to-face), and have now shifted
towards a storefront system. In a way, I guess it
does touch on that in some regards. It still
seems that the best cels and best *deals* occur
between individuals and between customers and
dealers who have a long personal history (no
flames please, this isn't an insult---it reflects
stories from many folks). But now more people
have a wider selection at decent prices overall in
a more "impersonal" market via the internet.
As for the e-mail issue, I wouldn't necessarily
call that impersonal. Or at least, I wouldn't
attribute it to rudeness. Dealers often have
other jobs. And the work required to run their
site and handle the basic order requests might be
enough to keep them plenty busy without responding
to non-essential e-mails. It would be polite of
them to state that they're busy, but I have yet to
e-mail a dealer who hasn't been more than willing
to converse about cels. Maybe I've just been
lucky with where I shop. I dunno.
In terms of those that have a problem with dealers
relegating their orders to the end of the line if
they request additional info, well, I can
understand both sides. Sure, you want to make an
informed decision, but that dealer may have
hundreds of cels coming and going at any one time.
Pulling one out just for a random question might
be tough. Plus, there is the issue of
competition. If you go to a car show and see a
one-of-a-kind concept car for sale, who do you
think they are going to sell it to? The person
who tells the dealer, "I'm interested, but I have
a few questions first."? Or the person next to
them saying, "I'LL BUY IT! I'LL BUY IT! HERE'S
THE CASH!!!"?
;-)
Since AnimeChaos was specifically mentioned as not
answering questions, I'll state that while Nick
may not provide such answers in the middle of an
update, he has always answered my questions at
other times without any problem.
