I often wonder how funny we must seem to Japanese
natives who visit our boards or recieve e-mails
from us. I have a classmate at my martial arts
school who laughs at my mis-pronounciation of
various Japanese words all the time- he has been
living in Japan for the last year.
However, ENJ, think about this- Japanese people,
at least characters in anime, use lots of English
words. How many times have I heard "Lucky!"
or "Hello!" ? There are lots of other words too,
but it's very common to hear English, single
words or phrases in an anime conversation or J-
Pop song. I think it is for the same reason-
each culture thinks something about the other is
cool, and so they mix in a few words, even if it
might sound silly to the native.
I do not make fun of the grammer or spelling of
Japanese people who post or write e-mails, and so
I think it is nice for them not to make fun of
us. Incidentally I don't refer to myself as chan,
kun, san, sama, sempai, etc....
