I had the same problem with a baby bird that fell 
out of its nest into my yard.  You're supposed to 
leave it there because the parents will take care 
of it... but I took it in when the squirrels 
started trying to kill it (they're more vicious 
than you'd think).

At least they die warm and comfortable rather 
than cold, painful, and eaten -.-
