When I'm working on my gallery, I spend a lot of 
time worrying about load time.  I only have a 
dial-up connection myself, as does my sister.  I 
usually use her as a beta-tester (Is this too 
slow? Should I split it up?)  In fact, that's my 
best recommendation - find someone with a regular 
dial-up to check it for you.  Another thing is 
that even if you have more than a half-dozen 
thumbnails, small thumbnails (less than 10 kb) 
generally take very little time to load even on a 
dial-up connection.  Some of my own scans could 
use greater compression, but generally I've found 
a system that works for me.
