The scans I have on my website are signifigantly
different from the scans kept on my computer for
my personal viewing (and reference). My personal
scans are full-size scans that include the edge of
the paint and the backgrounds past the edges of
the cels.
In the case of standard sized cels, there is still
some cut off the top, for exactly the reason that
Keys mentioned -- my scanner bed is a tad narrower
than the height of a standard cel, and doing a
second swipe (then combining the scans) is too
much work for just registration holes. My personal
scans often show part of the registration holes,
but not completely. For pan cels, I have to make
multiple passes to scan them anyway, so I scan
the cel and background entirely -- edge to edge.
But when I post a scan online (unless using a
seller's scan), I never show the registration
holes or sequence numbers. I also cut off most
(usually ALL) of the ragged edges of the paint,
which means that any backgrounds present are
cropped to the size of the cel. I usually show a
little more than would be visible on the screen,
but not as much as is present on the actual cel.
My fancels are treated yet differently the couple
times I've posted them. They're all original
poses, so I aggressively crop and heavily compress
the images to deter image thieves. Production
cels can be copied with a quality screen capture
from video that is commonly available, but the
only way someone will be able to copy my fancels
is if *I* allow a quality image to be taken. Thus
I'm more protective of my fancels' images.
