My personal preference is to get as much of the
image as I can. This is partially for my own
preservation/record keeping. I would like to see
as much of it as I can when I view it online. Of
course, I'm too lazy to anally do multiple passes
when one pass gets 'most' of it... so my
backgrounds tend to be a bit cropped depending on
what/who's scanner I'm using.
Without a background, I generally get the full
sheet of acetate minus the top inch or two. It's
important to know the placement of the image on
the cel and it's relative size to standard. I
really dislike it when sellers crop only the
image. I think it's generally accepted/known that
most people don't get the very top of their cels
(with the registration holes) because of scanner
constraints... so I feel it's clear having scans
that don't have that.
