Of course i agree that it inflates the price, but
as i stated on my previous post it resembles a
real live auction.

Here goes an example that drives away the idea of
"People should bid their max".

Several months ago on YJ there was a cel auction
of Ruri from Nadesico during the dancing contest.
Lets say that the cel was "the" one everybody
would like to have. The auction started at 10000
Yens and a lot of people placed bids. When i
placed my bid about 20 minutes before the auction
ending time the price was around 50000 yens. My
bid was 200000 yens, and yes, it was really my
maximum. Like 5 minutes after my bid i was already
outbidded, but well, what matters here is that 2
bidders started a bid war when the price was
around 300000 yens and the auction about to end.
The auction was auto-extended for almost an hour
and it ended at more than 500000 yens. During that
extra time only those 2 bidders were placing bids
and believe me, their bids were not "small bids"
as with each bid they were outbidding the other.

I was so amazed at such a bid war that stayed in
front of my computer all the time so i can give
testimony of it, those 2 bidders were not trying
to get on the top little by little, specially
since the price was of no joke. Now honestly tell
me, if this auction didn't had auto-extention
would it have arrived at 500000 yens? for sure
not, and what is more important, do you think any
of those bidders would have placed a unic bid of
500000 yens on the last second if the auction
didn't had auto-extent? for sure not.

Auto-extent is necesary even there's people who
abuses it, but an auction is an auction, and it
shouldn't be over until there's only one person
willing to pay the current amount.

I do sell things on ebay but don't think that i
want this feature because i would get more profit,
on the contrary, i purchase more things on YJ than
i sell on ebay and believe me, this auto-extend
feature has cost me a lot of money, so i can
consider myself a victim of it than anyone, but
it's still a good feature, just think, an auction
is an auction. What i stated on my previous post
was a way to make this feature more fair.
