Shucks.. ;.; I was really hoping this would be
news on some hot Yann-Nick action..
..
...err... Kidding. Of course. ^.~;;; *cough*
In any case, I would have to agree with the
earlier posters. The cost of the cel is only
one piece of the whole -- the dealers often have
to pay to either have someone out there picking
cels up for them, or for transportation in and
out of Japan if they're not a native. A lot of
costs come into it -- transportation to/from
Japan, transportation within Japan from shop to
shop, room & board, and various other overhead
costs. Besides which, oftentimes dealers end up
with things they -think- will sell, but may
not. That means monetary investments into these
cels which don't turn around. If a dealer has a
thousand dollars represented by non-selling
cels, they have to recoup that money somehow if
they're going to continue to acquire more cels
to sell, or eventually they'll be stuck without
any money with which to add new products, and
then -- well, as was mentioned in an earlier
thread, that's when they have a big sale, take a
bit of a loss, but get some money out of those
cels.
And if they make a profit, that just means that
they'll keep seeking out these cels and making
them available to those of us who can't afford
the time and money required for a trip to Japan
to get these cels at the source. And that's a
price-hike that makes it worthwhile. |
