I know how you're feeling- I went through it about
4 months ago.
I was buying far, far too much, just pissing away
tons of money, to the point of having so many
cels, I could never enjoy them all, and not enough
money to have any other kinds of fun.
You have to find a point of equilibrium, you have
to reach a point of balance where you can be
comfortable with it all. There's no need to
utterly abandon it, but you can become more
reasonable.
I realized that by having so many cels, it
"diluted" my collection, and made my favorites
feel less special because they were lost in such a
big pile of stuff. I felt overwhelmed- it sounds
like you're in the place I was.
I made a change.
I sold a bunch of cels. I raised my standards. Now
I don't buy just any cel that comes along, instead
I look at potential candidates and think "is this
cel *really* one I want to drop serious bank on?"
I'd say 9 times out of 10 now the answer is no. I
also don't spend the exhorbitant amounts I used to
on individual cels- I hang back and wait, the
decent deals do come along now and then. Too many
cels seem vastly overpriced lately, that's a great
deterrent too. Instead I enjoy browsing ebay, YJ,
and the various seller's sites and "windowshop". I
still buy on occasion, but what I buy feels more
special now. I put more of my energy into
preservation of what I have- all of my cels are
now neatly matted and bagged, and I used archival
supplies and gloves to clean them as I store them.
(I keep them in gallery-style photo boxes)It makes
my collection so much more attracrive for showing
to people, and it also helps in my selecting what
I do buy- if it's not nice enough to mat, I'm not
buying it.
I'm much happier now, I have what I think is a
nicer collection than before, and I have money for
other things- and when I *do* buy a cel, I look
more forward to it's arrival, and I cherish it
more. Don't give up hope and let collecting get
you down, I think we all go through what you're
going through at some point.
