Mid-Life Cel Crisis? (Wed Dec 12 04:56:17 2001 )

Hello,

Just curious about what others may have to say as
I'm sure others have reached this point in their
hobby of collecting. First a little background.
Well, I'm a 20 year old college student who has
been collecting for about a year and a half now.
Been an anime fan for about 15 years; yes I
started when I was 5.. *g*

It's been fun collecting, but doing some thinking
I've begun to wonder whether I should continue
collecting or to finally end it and release my
collection to others. I'm a selective collector
(A "scene collector" who has had surprising luck
in getting dream scene cels) so while my
collection is small it's rather pricey. In
reality, my collection actually has more invested
in it than my stock portfolio. The work in
hunting down and the constant financial
management has been starting to wear me thin, not
to mention slowing my anime DVD collection.
Though tiring, I still get chills when I find
that one cel I've been searching for. And even
though I'm considering dropping this hobby I'm
reluctant to part with any of the cels I've
acquired.

Is it time to end it or have I just hit a slump?
The next cel I'm vying for "threatens" to
increase the value of my collection by a third.
(Yes, it'll be expensive if it falls through).
Considering all things, that money might be put
to better use in my stock portfolio for the
future or other personal things. I could curb my
collecting but with such a selective view cels
seem to come either once a every couple months or
3-4 in a week. I'm sort of torn, I've hit a
point in my life where I should start considering
the future more but anime has been a happy part
of my life. What to do?

Well my fellow collectors? Any comforting words
of wisdom? I know this is a decision that I
should make myself but I'm curious as to how
others made it through such situations.
