So are you actually putting the lines on the 
front or the back where you paint?

I put the lines on the front to eliminate that 
problem. I also use a pen by staedler 
called "lumocolor". (or is that lumograph?!?! 
>_<) It produces permanent really black lines. 

I haven't visited requiems site yet - so i don't 
know what that person listed as the recommended 
pen.
