OK, the madness has gone on long enough! I will
risk sounding like a n00b and post my question
here. Hopefully one of you will have experienced
this before. Let me give you some history on my
problem:
I started painting fan cels about two years ago.
At first I experimented with a number of
different pens to see which would give the
desired effect. Some would smear, but several of
them held well to the cel. But then another
problem arose: after applying paint over the
lines they would 'lift,' or become very faded in
appearance. Finally, after wasting way too much
money on pens, I decided to simply draw my image
on top of the acetate.
About a week ago, I visited Requiem's site and
saw that she had a cel painting tutorial. I
thought it would be interesting to see how our
processes would match up, and I saw that she even
listed the supplies she used. Thrilled, I ran out
to the art store yesterday and got the pen. I
even spent a couple of hours today inking and
applying some of the hair/skin highlights. But
then when I turned the cel over, NOOOOO! The
lines were fading away again! How can this be?
I have racked my brain over this and can only
come up with one solution: my paint. It must be
my paint! I've been using the exact same brand
that I was using two years ago, Golden acrylics.
They are excellent in fluidity and won't chip or
crack, so I've enjoyed using them. But has anyone
else noticed this particular problem with them
before? It's driving me crazy! And now I have to
start my cel all over again! $&&Q#@&Q%

Help would be wonderful. Please stop me from
going INSANE! AHHH! |
