It's not an effort to keep anyone else from
owning a cel from the scene. One of the secondary
joys I have from collecting cels is that my cel
is the only one like it (barring fancels I don't
know about).
In that same vein, I *love* to see other people
get cels from the same sequences as mine, since
then I get to look at theirs and play the "what's
different here" game. (Anyone play this as kids?
You get a picture of 20 duckies or somesuch that
all look very similar and you either have to find
the one that is different or find the two that
are the same? ^_^) I love even more when I find
a "cel sibling" - someone who has a cel from a
sequence that I do, and their sequence number is
right next to mine. That is the most fun. ^_^
On the other hand. . . Take something that has
been wrecked by fancels (both prfessional and non-
professional). . . Ah My Goddess. I adore this
show and would collect from it - but there are so
many damn fancels it takes a lot of effort to
figure out which are real production ones and
which aren't. I doubt the studio themselves could
tell with 100% accuracy. So I don't bother. Even
if I had an original, no one would believe it was
anyway - and *I* would probably be unsure also. As
far as I'm concerned, collecting from that whole
show was wrecked. . . by fancels.
So there are two sides to every coin. . . I think
fancels are fun - I've made a couple myself and
even considered making fancels of some of my own
cels that I want to see framed but don't want to
risk actually framing. And fancels of original
artwork are themselves unique too! But I really
don't think copy fancels should be sold at all.
Even when marked, if they're good enough, they're
just itching to have someone else pawn them off
as originals.
Many Sharp Smiles,
